Risk Management

Risk Management Services

WCIA's Risk Management team is experienced and skilled in municipal risks. Each member has an assigned Risk Management Representative that provides individual attention, personal communication and detailed risk analysis in support of a formal comprehensive COMPACT program.

A broad array of risk management services is available to the membership and include:

  • On-site Reviews of common municipal government risk management exposures. Field visits include loss control inspections of playgrounds, parks and buildings.
  • Department Meeting presentations on specific risk management issues.
  • Orientations for New Members, New Delegates or New Department Heads.
  • Research and Analysis of municipal liability questions and concerns.
  • Contract Review of indemnification, hold harmless and insurance requirements.

Legal Consultations

Legal consultations services are provided to the membership on a limited basis. This is valuable member benefit because it is the first phase in a program that may transpire into pre-defense and litigation. These consultations may include legal review of personnel policies or practices, land use issues, or general liability issues that are not particular to a potential claim, but may require the formal review of an attorney. Many of the consultations result in a legal analysis which is shared with the membership through Risk Management Bulletins. The Legal consultation program is an administrative cost which does not count towards member's loss experience.

Pre-Defense Review

Pre defense Review is a nationally recognized service that pre-positions members for potential land use, employment and other management related decisions that could result in liability. This program is designed to assist Members with potential sensitive exposures.
